Located in suburban Washington DC, the American Research Company, Inc. (ARC) is an established independent research firm which produces the National Compensation Study, an annual statistical compensation report for CEOs of non-profit membership associations. Additionally, the company provides customized compensation analyses for individual association CEOs, using information from the annual survey data.
Conducted annually since 1991, the ARC National Compensation Study has become the foremost authority on association CEO compensation. ARC maintains strong ties with George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, whose statistics professors serve as academic consultants to the company.

The company's President, Jeannine James (nee Jeannine Greffet), has a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from George Mason University, and over 20 years experience in survey and statistical analyses. Prior to founding the American Research Company in 1989, Dr. James worked for 9 years as a management consultant specializing in mail surveys, program evaluation and cost benefit studies. Previous to that she worked as a Human Resource professional in business, college and hospital settings. Dr. James has authored numerous publications in the area of survey research and statistical analysis, and has also served as a peer reviewer for journal articles submitted for publication in Public Opinion Quarterly. Her professional associations include the American Association for Public Opinion Research, and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce Executive Forum.
